Description
Our “Pitlolly” Pine tree is a hybrid of the Pitch Pine (Pinus rigida) and the Loblolly Pine (Pinus taeda). The Pitch Pine is a fast growing pine that adapts very well to several soil conditions, while the Loblolly Pine is long lived and has excellent pest resistance. The Pitlolly Pine takes the best attributes of each tree, adopting drought tolerance, and disease and pest resistance.
The City of Wichita has adopted a new Tree Canopy Policy which includes the Loblolly pine. As a hybrid of the Loblolly pine, it carries all of the benefits of the Loblolly pine plus the benefits of the Pitch pine.
The Pitlolly Pine would make a wonderful privacy screen, wind block, or shade tree. They have long needles and mature to a naturally wonderful conical shape.
